Start with a question?

We are looking at a curriculum which attempts to move from a knowledge based approach to the curriculum to a skills based approach. The organising principle of this curriculum is that we start with questions. What do the children want to know? The difficulty is that the teachers are planning what questions they will answer. So we start with a question but we aren’t matching learning to where the children are at. Charles Leadbeater was discussing (TED Link) schools around the world recently that start with a question. His inference was that children would come to school; they’d ask about something and it would lead to teaching, explanations, activities and artefacts initiated by the enquiry.
