This video available at here from Edugeek and Microsoft has some new information on the cost saving Microsoft EES licensing. It is tricky to see it as totally impartial advice but these discussions are going to have to happen. One topic is whether we cut staff or technology. One speaker quote Sugata Mitra who says, “any teacher who can be replaced by a computer should be replaced by a computer”. While this is a truism it really raises the next question, “why is someone who can so easily be replaced by a computer still working in a UK school?” The quality of our education should be so personalised and interventive that a computer could never do a better job. It even raises assumptions about the vision for pedagogy that sees ICT as a transmissive tool rather than a communicative or expressive medium.
