Sugata Mitra and a new primary curriculum

Sugata

Sugata Mitra at Naace 2011 outlined the possibilities of a SOLE – Self Organised Learning Environment. He listed three essentials for a primary curriculum:

Information Search and Analysis
Reading Comprehension
A Rational System of Belief

He may even be suggesting that these aren’t just essential elements but actually the curriculum in total. Perhaps he is suggesting that once equipped with these skills then learners can achieve everything. I tried the approach today in my literacy class. It was great to see the children all working towards a goal without any supervision. I used Apple Remote Desktop to watch the screens from a distance. One of my instant reactions was the lack of knowledge of different websites and the need to think of searches beyond the simple question.

It was easy to see how there is such a statistical deviation from the mean.
